Fuel samples contain excessive sulfur - BPH Migas

The downstream oil and gas regulator (BPH Migas) has found in its sanctioned laboratory tests that fuel         samples taken from problematic taxis contained excessive sulfur and gum.

BPH Migas chief Tubagus Haryono said on Wednesday the tests also discovered
several types of earth metal in the fuel samples, including lead (Pb), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu).

The test were conducted by the Center for Oil and Gas Development and Research (Lemigas) on samples taken from a number of Gamya taxi pools, a Taksi Putra taxi pool and several gas stations across Jakarta.

Tubagus said the tests revealed that the fuel produced by state oil and gas company Pertamina met the standards set by the government.

More than 1,000 taxis could not operate recently due to broken fuel pumps after refueling. Some of the taxi operators have moved to Pertamina’s rival, Shell Indonesia, following the incident, which occurred as the government was considering limitation of subsidized fuel consumption.
