Legislator - SBY slow in handling Malaysia controversy

Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) legislator Budiman Sudjatmiko considered President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono response to addressing the controversy over Malaysia’s recent arrest of Indonesian maritime affairs
and fisheries officers in Indonesian waters “slow”.

Budiman strongly suggested Yudhoyono take concrete measures by arranging a face-to-face meeting with Malaysian PM Najib Razak, instead of delegating the Foreign Minister to handle the diplomatically sensitive issue.

A letter of protest was also an ineffective approach, Budiman added.

“We should arrange a special meeting on the border between Indonesia and Malaysia,” Budiman said during a working visit to Makassar Monday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Budiman urged the government to speed up its effort to resolve border issues because similar incidents have often repeated themselves.
