Head of the office, Muhammad Yusuf, said on Saturday the travel ban was needed to prevent Erwin from fleeing the country prior to his imprisonment on Monday, after the Supreme Court found him guilty of public indecency and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment.
“We requested the travel ban to the immigration office on August 26,” Yusuf said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said he did not know the whereabouts of Erwin, whose office was relocated to Bali following a series of protests from hard-line Islamic groups.
Yusuf said he had sent a summons to Erwin’s residence in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, asking him to appear on Monday at 10 a.m. to enable the state prosecutors to execute the Supreme Court’s verdict.
The prosecutors will issue a second summons if Erwin fails to turn up on Monday, but will resort to the use of force if the convict does not meet the second summons.
In his Twitter account, Erwin said Friday he was in Jakarta and would not run away.
